Programs Overview

Whether you seek health and fitness classes, child care or day camp programs, aquatic activities, sports and recreation or other youth programs, you’ll find choices at the Y for people of all ages, interests, and abilities. We tailor our program content to meet your needs and we work hard to make every program fun and rewarding.

All YMCA programs allow the YMCA to accomplish our mission, achieve our vision of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities, and reinforce the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Our swim lessons and aquatic classes aren’t just great for exercise; they also build life skills and offer the opportunity for kids and families to bond in a safe environment. From water exercise to lap swimming to open swim, the Valley Points Family YMCA provides aquatic opportunities, safety-focused instruction, and family friendly activities at our pools at the New Kensington and Allegheny Valley branches. In addition to recreational swimming, the Y hosts competitive swim teams for kids and adults, which teach swimmers to value hard work, engage in a team environment, and enjoy high-spirited competition.

The Y’s early learning and school-age childcare programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical, and social development of kids, the support parents and families need, and the importance of maintaining a safe & clean environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive. Our programs help infants & toddlers develop trust and security, preschoolers experience early literacy and learn about their world, and school-age kids make lasting friendships, learn new skills, and get help with their schoolwork. Camps at the Y offer kids countless opportunities to laugh, learn, and make lasting friendships. Our proven programs and trained leaders and counselors deliver meaningful, memorable experiences that keep kids coming back year after year.

The Y’s fitness and well-being activities go well beyond just working out. In addition to the cardio and strength equipment in our fitness facilities, we provide a variety of programs led by caring staff designed to nurture a healthy spirit, mind, and body at every age and life stage. At the Y, you can find classes and programs that promote well-being, reduce your risk for chronic disease, and help you reclaim your health. Our Ys also offer personal training to help you set and meet goals to live healthier and feel better. Active older adults can benefit from our SilverSneakers, water, and other specialized programs. Our land and water classes incorporate simple, easy-to-learn movements that inspire you to stay active and increase your heart rate with motivating music alongside supportive classmates and encouraging instructors.

Our sports and recreation programs keep kids active, teach friendly competition, and introduce healthy practices for life. Children can gain new skills, learn to work as a team, and connect with positive role models – all in an inclusive environment. Explore our activities and learn why physical activity and play is so important for your child’s growth and well-being. Our sports staff, coaches, and volunteers encourage youth and teens to reach their full potential, so that as children grow and develop, sports and playtime continue to be an important part of their daily routine.
